Perhaps very small with negative films, but IMO it's not all that small with transparency. It's at the edge of forgiveness in exposure error. Shift it much more and there are potential issues with highlight detail to cope with . . .

Spoken like a veteran of the Kodachrome wars. E6 is more forgiving, but I do really agree with you, which is why I think it is important to figure out whether to shoot Velvia at 40 or 50 ASA (or whatever speed).
