When I made my previous response to this question, I didn't realize that
your humidity didn't much exceed 50-60%. Here's what I do, in a similar
climate.

I went to a chain home center, and got what is sold as a gun cabinet, about
$80. I stripped most of the stuff out of the inside, and put in shelves. The
cabinet is bolted to the wall through the back. I put rubber weatherstrip on
the door, to make the cabinet farily airtight. I then got three of the
little aluminum containers of silica gel from a camera store (paid too much,
$6 or so each, but it was the easy way out), and I put them on three of the
shelves.
When the silica turns color, I bake it, and reinstall. In the most humid
summer months, they need cooking about every three or four weeks. In the
winter, they last months.

This takes care of two things, fungus, and theft.

Bill Pearce, who is not even close to smart enough to begin to understand
what that OT math problem was all about.
