You could well be right. As I noted, Frost then gave a picture for example, saying he exposed @ 1/30s open at f/1.8 using 1600 film. For sure the meter reading needs to be done off the subject, not averaged over the scene. A handheld meter or the spot function on a 4T would take care of that.

Again, I don't do this work myself. Just passing along what I found in the book.

1/4 sec at f/16?  That doesn't sound right.

Kodak's recommendations say 1/15 sec at F/2 w/ASA 400 film.

There's an existing light dial in the Kodak Pocket Photoguide, something that I don't ever go on a photo shoot or trip without.
