G'day Zuiks,

Unless I'm very much mistaken, a review of Tom's original Microsoft licence
text may very well state that said licence is NON-transferable. Has he read
it?

John.

Larry -- I'm not sure I understand you...

Tom's trying to resell a legitimately-purchased 'instance' of WinXP. Someone
(probably Tom) paid Microsoft the big $$$ for the reward of all the benefits
of WinXP, those programmers' hard work and effort, and Microsoft has already
paid them, so they have been rewarded already. Now the original purchaser
has moved on (to a different legitimately-acquired 'instance' of the same
XP, but that's really beside the point) and wishes to resell this first
'instance'. This isn't taking anything from those programmers, as they have
been compensated for their efforts in creating each 'instance' as has
Microsoft for its strategic business brilliance (and monopolistic
practices...)

Seems like what you're suggesting is similar to saying that after you have
purchased and driven a new car, and then have subsequently purchased a
different new car you can't resell the first (previously driven, now used)
car. Otherwise you are somehow depriving those poor autoworkers and
executives of the profit that the used car buyer would generate by buying a
new car instead. So there should be no resale without giving the equivalent
of the first-time-around profit to GM or Ford yet again...

Am I to believe that you are suggesting there should be no private resale
market for software (or autos)?

I'm *sure* Bill Gates and Bill Ford would *love* that...!
