Needing a really compact, portable and pocketable camera
steadying device that was instantly removeable, I bought
a 6' long, 3/8" wide nylon small dog leash at WalMart for $3.47.

You can also use extended version of it :) Buy a longer dog leash - say 2 meter/ 7 yard long one, attach a tripod screw at one end. Mount
it to camera, step on other end and it will steady camera a lot.

You are confusing feet and yards, which is understandable. His 6' is a little less than two meters.

If you can't or don't have any money extra for such a expensive devices, then carry a stick with you. When you put camera on top of it,
it will work nicely as a ersatz-monopod :)
