i have the 3236 legs with 3275 geared head. honestly, all these changes in
numbers have me confused, but since the 3236 was replaced by the 475B, it
looks like that would be your "new" option.

however, i would recommend the 3236 over the new 475 because of the locking
mechanism on the legs. i personally don't like the flip lever like that one
that seems to be spring loaded. the adjustment on the old one is nice, and
much easier to use in the cold weather - especially with gloves!. i also
agree with Moose about the center column. it is great for samll
adjustments, and very stable.

As for the head, the only limitation i have found is that it is a bit
unstable with a LF press camera. it seems fine for MF and 35mm, but does
have its limits. its a bargain for what they are selling it for, but i can
see it wearing out after several years as opposed to the 3263 which will
last forever.

also, i have used all of my equipment on this combo with good sucess. it
holds the 300/4.5 and 80-200/2.8 fine as well as the AT and 135/4.5. my
only complaint is that for the shift lenses i find that i have to use the
head "backwards" so that i have enough clearance for down shift.

i hope this helps, and feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

The 3236 leg set adds a geared center column for precise height
adjustment. This is a pretty heavy duty leg set and, unlike the lighter
sets, extending the center column up to at least a foot doesn't add
vibration or instability problems. The legs alone wil go up to about 7
feet, so you don't need the column for height, but I find it invaluable
for small height adjustments without adjusting all the legs.

want the camera to be aligned accurately (applicable to macro as well).
