It has something to do with angle of view of the lens, how light passes
through the screen, how the light is radiated by the screen.  1 series
screens are evenly illuminated by most if not all lenses.  2 series focus
light more to make screen brighter, so maybe outer areas of screen are
darker, cds cells see less light and cause overexposure.
