I've had two situations with the mail that were interesting.  The first was
a 50/2 Macro that was mailed to a former, and infamous, list member in
Australia.  He claimed it was lost and I, unfortunately, had somehow managed
to not insure it. I refunded his money, always suspecting it wasn't lost.  A
year later I get an email that it had finally shown up and he would ship it
back if I paid the shipping. Surprisingly that shipping cost US$90 for about
US$15 in postage, but I needed to cut my losses, so I paid it.  Hope he
enjoyed using it for a year and profiting.  The lens was then sold to a list
member in Europe and posted airmail.  It showed up, if I remember correctly,
about 5 or 6 weeks later. Guess that particular lens is jinxed.

My other experience was the only truly lost box I've had and it was a
shipment to me, including a mint OM-1 and an MD-1.  Post office marked it as
delivered (delivery confirmation) when it reached our post office. I've
found out that for packages delivered to a business, 'confirmation' only
means it made it to the closest post office. I eventually tracked it down
that it had been delivered to a building across the street, interestingly to
another 'Scales'. In repeated attempts to contact the person, I was shunted
from various person to various person and never could get in contact with
them. Surprise, surprise. The Post office finally paid on that one.
