It's a simple question, but answering it raises deep philosophical issues.
Whether the list is alive or not is not a question that the list itslef can
reliably answer. The list may think itself to be alive - but perhaps all
the list interchanges of opinon are merely computer-generated? The list may
think itself to be dead - but perhaps those same computer-generated
interchanges are indistinguishable from the symptoms of life?
I think you will have to form your own view of the list's life, Erik. It
may be right, it may be wrong - you will find strong support for either view
from list members, whether or not the view is expressed in a fixed-width
font.
