Giles, Carefully inspected metal barrel...inset rubber ring...no lenshood,
will turn a spacer to fit between lens and hood as a temp measure....and

Does your Tamron have a smooth metal barrel or does it have an inset
ribbed rubber ring? If the former, then you probably have the hood,
which is stored reversed over the barrel.
