Perhaps a stupid question, but did you check the termination and ID setting
of the devices you attached to the SCSI controller?
I suppose you have already checked this, but in case you didn't, there's not
much magic to using multiple SCSI devices on one controller (typically you
can use either 7 or 15 devices per controller). The two key points to look
at:
1) Proper ID setting: when daisy chaining SCSI devices, make sure each
device has a unique ID and that it is not set to the same ID as the
controller.
2) Proper daisy chain termination: only one device (the last in the chain)
needs to be "terminated", the others should NOT be terminated.
How to go about setting these 2 key items correctly is described in the
manuals of your SCSI controller, and of the devices in question. If you do
not have the manuals anymore, take a look at the manufacturer and model of
the pieces of hardware in question and search using www.deja.com (Usenet) or
plainly Google for the manuals.
Last year I added a second HD to my SCSI controller, and all worked like a
charm, not much to it.
Ah yes, one more point of interest, there are various different SCSI
standards in use I believe they are SCSI ( "normal" SCSI), Fast SCSI, Ultra
Wide SCSI. Devices for the various types of SCSI may or may not be
interchangeable, so that would be another thing to check.
