PHOTOGRAPHER WINS RECOMPENSE IN GROUND BREAKING IP CASE
In the copyright case initiated by freelance photographer,
Jerry Greenberg, against the National Geographic Society, a
US district court has ruled that Greenberg's work had been
infringed. He was awarded $US100,000 for each of the four
works breached. The case revolved around the re-publication
of Greenberg's photographs by National Geographic on their
"The Complete National Geographic on CD-ROM" product.
Greenberg argued that the CD-ROM represented a new product
that was outside the privilege available under US copyright
law.
