I need help on this one ..

I was going through my "empty" boxes and found one that was not. It contained a pristine brown leather case .. possibly never used. The leather is soft and supple, much softer than the black semi-hard case. Looks like it was just made. It can be seen at: <http://home.dc.rr.com/nsnadel/BrownCase.jpg>http://home.dc.rr.com/nsnadel/BrownCase.jpg
The box also contains a NIB brown leather strap.

I have the following questions:

1. Why was the brown case called a "hard" case when it is much softer than the semi-hard case.

No idea, since I've never seen the black "semi-hard" case. I gave away my brown one to someone on the List, 'cause I never used it (don't like those "never-ready" cases myself).

2. What is under the 1.4 label on the box .. if you know? Each side is identical with the exact same label. It appears to be a factory modification.

I assume it's a variation on a "version number" or perhaps an SKU for stock/cataloguing purposes. Cheaper to make a sticker than re-print the obviously high-quality (and probably fairly pricey) Oly box.

3. Value of above??

Well, I've seen these things go for quite a bit of coin, though personally, I would never pay more than $30.00 U.S. for one. I also gave away a genuine Oly leatherette case that covered an OM body with a winder and lens attached. My personal opinion on what the damn things are actually worth, I guess. ;-)
