It will likely help some. If you are looking for the lovely soft light of pro portraits, you are fighting simple geometry. A small light source will create shadows that a large source will not. Diffused or not, a T32 is a 1x2.5 in. source. Point it straight up and bounce it off a 45 deg. reflector and you get a larger source, how large depends on size and distance of the reflector. Point it back into a reflective umbrella and the source becomes very large., but not very bright. There have been lots of posts about soft boxes, foam core or similar materials cut to fit on a T32, etc. You might also check the web, including John Lind's site. There is a lot of info out there on the subject. It's all well known and proved techniques.
