Yes, but only if it is exported to another EU country, and you do not quote
your own VAT/moms/MWT (OK, emough TLAs, already) registration number. So
you, Titoy, are probably safe to ask for VAT-free prices. But I think
anyone living in St Pierre et Miquelon, off the eastern seaboard of Canada,
might be disappointed.
But in my experience - having until recently lived (just) outside EU - it
can depend on the retailer - some can't or won't be bothered with the
paperwork (the more you spend, the better chance you have).
BUT the other possible obstacle is when buying used equipment from a
retailer. Sometimes they are selling as agents for the owner, so no VAT is
payable, so no VAT-free export. Sometimes they have an arrangment with the
tax authorities to pay VAT on gross turnover, not per-item. So no VAT-free
export.
Any other tax, duty, excise questions anyone?
