First, William, you're exactly right. I often forget to mention that the
incident meter needs to be pointed at the camera, with the very top of the
ping-pong ball thingie aimed at the center of the front element of the lens.
Any other way, you're on your own. I've used this plenty of times outdoors
with the meter at the camera position, but correctly aimed, with perfect
results.

"Whoa, if incident metering is the better one, and you could do it with a
gray card in pocket, then the multispot metering of the om 4 series is not
much of a necessity for most enthusiasts like us?"
Oh. no, Titoy. You can't mention this dirty secret in public! While the
multispot feature is a good one, and for the right person in the right
situation, I'll bet that most buyers didn't use the spot meter past the
first roll.

Of course, when it is needed, it is there...
