The Deception Pass area is a good choice especially if the weather is
lousy as it can be in early June as it rains much less here than in
Seattle. Most of the accommodations in the N. Whidbey Island and Fidalgo
Island areas are the B&B type. La Conner is a bit touristy but has many
B&B's and a decent restaurant. Motels are in the Skagit Valley near I5
if you prefer them and that's not a bad place to base for a trip either
to the N. Cascades or to the beach as weather dictates. For beach trips
I recommend Deception Pass State Park or Larrabee State Park but no long
hikes. There are some longer hikes up hill from Larrabee though on the
new Boundary Trail. June is still early for the N. Cascades so expect
some snow on the trails higher up. It usually isn't a problem if you
wear good boots. Popular short hikes with great views are Sauk Mtn.,
Cascade Pass and Scrieber's Meadow. Stop in the Park headquarters in
Sedro Woolley for current conditions. I'd be happy to answer any more
questions.
