Yes, but. There are actually 3 Models of this lens, the first 2 of which
were/are available in MF Adaptall 2.
The first one is Model #71A, which is labeled as Aspherical. Close focus
is limited to 2.1m/7ft. However, there is a dedicated close-up lens
which bayonets on the front and gives a focal range from 1-2 m. and max
image size of 1:5. Works well.
The second model is #171A. It is essentially identical looking to the
71A except for the pattern on the rubber focus ring. It is labeled as
Aspherical, LD glass and IF. IF allows a tulip shaped bayonet mount hood
which comes with it. The bayonet is different from the 71A so the CU
lens won't fit. However close focus is already a much improved 0.8m.
The next model is smaller and lighter than these 2, but not made in MF
at all.
The 171A is still available new for $299 at B&H and I think it is still
a current model. I picked up one I would call mint- for less than that
on the 'Bay.
You can guess from all the above that I now have both models. The 71A is
available for sale, as is the dedicated close-up lens for it. Really an
amazing lens in terms of what it does in a modest size and weight. It's
only 3 1/8" long at 28mm and expandes/extends bery impressivly to 5 1/8"
at 200mm, a very obviously macho lens! It has the usual supersoom
limitations, some vignetting wide open at 28mm, a bit of barrel
distortion at wide angle and a bit of pincushion at the long end. I
shoot mostly natural subjects without straight lines, so I didn't notice
the linear distortion until I took pics of reflections in a mirrored
building at 200mm. These are about the closest thing to a 'do
everything' lens to be found for a MF camera like the Olys.
71A, close-up adapter, ornginal Tamron front cap, generic push-on rear
cap and a very nice generic hard case that fits it like a glove all for
asking price of $150. The reason for the generic rear cap is that it
doesn't fit in the case with the deep "Tamron Adaptall 2 For Olympus"
cap. If you want an original Adaptall 2 cap instead of the case, that
works too.
