ok, I'll give it a try:
DSLRs about to drop in price
Olympus and Eastman Kodak USA have formed an alliance to facilitate a
lower starting price for DSLRs, according to the japanese economics
magazine Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
Whereas simple digital cameras these days are available for dumping
prices, DSLRs are usually still quite expensive. Olympus and Kodak are
going to exchange their technical developements and marketing structures
to save money.
According to the article in Nihon Keizai Shimbun Olympus is going to
develope a DSLR until October based on Kodaks actual sensor and rumour
has it that Kodak will be marketing this DSLR under it's own trademark.
Kodaks sensor is said to have 5 megapixel but only 60 0n size of those
in recent DSLRs. This would enable smaller and lighter bodies and
lenses. The price mentioned by Nihon Keizai Shimbun is 100.000 Yen, (712
Euro).
Kodak and Olympus are already working together for some time: they have
been developing the "Four Thirds System", announced ahead of the
photokina 2002, where sensorsize and bayonet are standardized to
facilitate using different brand lenses and parts. It has becomme
publicly known in april that ex Hewlett-Packard manager Antonio M.
Perez,now head of digital product marketing at Kodak is supposed to
raise profit.
Due to general recession and growing interest in digital photography
film based business is stagnating.
