Re your temperature problems; I had a week crosscountry skiing in Norway in
January, where the temperature was mostly between -25 Celcius and -10
Celcius. I started with an OM-4Ti hung on my chest in a leather ERC. I had
battery/meter problems after a couple of hours. For the rest of the week I
used an OM-1n (altered to 1.55v by John H.) in the same leather case
without any problems.
Regarding the extra battery holder for cold weather, I bought a new one for
an OM-2n from Photografica's cache of Olympus bits and pieces (ex-Olympus
Europe) for not much money; they had three I believe. Does not fit the
OM-4Ti as far as I remember.

I am also short of a cheap 3Ti....but the 1n is a very good alternative.

Many thanks for all your tips.
I just dug the film leader out of a drawer and found that 1 of the
sprockets
was torn, so it looks like film brittleness was also a problem. However
next
time I guess I will shoot and wind a few frames with the back open to check
everything is going right. Not so easy to do when you don't want the camera
full off spindrift.
As for OM1 recommendations - its the other body in my main bag. But when I
have to take just one I can do a lot more with the 4ti.
Batteries weren't actually a problem at all - until I crawled out of the
snowcave at midnight to take some shots of the mountain lit by moonlight.
Spotmetered off the snow, +2stops comp, then rest on a rock and use the
self-timer to trip the shutter for a 3 minute exposure. I think you can
guess what happened to the batteries then...and its even colder at night.
But spares aren't so heavy so I don't mind much.

Having said that...anyone got a 3ti going cheap?
