I have to ask who your mechanic is...I might know him. There have been some
horrible wrecks on the Genesee flats. I know two people who were killed
there and some more who wished they would have been killed rather than badly
maimed. The old crooked Lewiston grade was certainly more fun to drive than
the new one. The rolling hills and steep canyons that make North Idaho so
photogenic also mean dangerous roads. Fun but dangerous.
That part of Idaho is so pretty, especially in the spring when the crops are
green and the wild flowers are blooming. The sprays used by farmers have,
unfortunately, killed some of the flowers along with the targeted weeds. My
wife has farms and timber land on Big Bear Ridge about half way between
Deary and Kendrick. Nice country.

My mechanic claims to hold the record time from Moscow to Lewiston (old
Lewiston grade - something like 21 minutes). Had a Camaro Z28. He was
once stopped by the Idaho State Patrol just south of the Genesee Flats.
"Do you know how fast you were driving, son". "No, I'm not sure, but
usually I drive about 125 through here". Officer folded up his ticket
book, and walked away, shaking his head. Said mechanic does not have a
hair that is not gray (or white) though.
