Just because someone says not to, do I still have the right?

An example; back in the late 60's I was down town LA and got some
pictures some of a black panthers doing recruiting on the streets. 

One of the females said I better not take her picture or else, but did
any way when she wasn't looking. 

I was glad to get the hell out of there, no not down town LA,
California! (lol)

That's an open-ended question.  Could you be a little more specific, so 
that the more knowledgeable people on this List don't have to post a 
multi-hundred page treatise?  What's your concern?
