It could be that it isn't adjusted or programmed properly, perhaps from
the factory or as a result of subsequent damage.  Some "plastic
fantastics" provide exceptional performance, some, even of the same
make/model, are worthless for quality images.  It is literally a
camera-to-camera thing.  Bottom line, she might have it checked over
(esp. if it's under warranty) by a qualified service facility.
