The red dot on the mount is 12 o'clock noon (probably midnight in Hawaii)

The top picture is the bad one

The bottom picture is the good one

Print them and compare, you will see the difference.

I'm sorry I'm coming into this late, how are you determining 12 o clock? Dan

That is correct; the 'OL' shown is OK.

I have at least 2 'OL' mounts that have a 'bad' screw, that is closer to 3
o'clock than to 4 o'clock (top screw at 12 o'clock).

Be careful out there!

I believe the "OM" are all supposed to be bad ...
That while some of the "OL" are bad all of the good ones are labeled "OL".

The screw head at the top of the picture looks like it is the one near the
red dot on the lens. The next screw head clockwise is the one which would
end up close to the reset button when the lens is completely mounted on the
camera.

If I'm seeing the pictures correctly the second screw head and the small tab
near it (which is used to manually stop down the lens) are both slightly
closer to the to the first screw head on the bad mount. Perhaps the easiest
way to tell the good from the bad is that one edge of the manual stop down
tab is inline with the second ear of the bayonet mount (next to Japan) on
the good mount.

Does this make sense to anyone besides me?

Thanks, -jeff
