According to the Leicaphiles, summicrons from the as far back as the 30s
up to the mid 50s have exhibited similar yellowing from radioactive
content (and the content has been confirmed to include thorium amongst
others) and their colour is homogenous. As mentioned previously, I have
examined some pretty severe examples of lenses used in nuclear
processing plants and, whilst not caused by the glass content but rather
the exposure of the glass to ionising radiation, they are certainly
homogenous - in complete contrast to what you admit is your limited
exposure to this issue. Then again, you confirm that your limited
experience has no relation to optical quality glass.
