Could be 'overwound' where the latch that stops the wind gears at the end of a cycle gets dirty/greasy enough that it doesn't snap into it's notch in the wheel before it has gone past.

If so, it is a pretty minor problem. It's pretty easy to fix temporarily for the mechanically adept who are willing to take the bottom off, but long term repair requires the experience, knowledge and tools of a pro.
