I wouldn't go knocking the matrix metering in the N*kon too
much. That puppy actually works and works extremely well.
However, when it gets it wrong it is very wrong.

I've been processing and printing work for an up-and-coming
photographer that uses Nikons. The Matrix metering is so
consistant that, roll after roll, the exposures are identical.
Doesn't matter the lighting, whether or not she is using auto
fill-flash or what. Imagine trying to photograph a child in a
white dress at the beach in auto mode. The camera knew enough
to get it right. There wasn't an 18% anywhere in the scene.
And that's with a low-end N80.

Trust me, it wasn't the photographer that got it right.

I had investigated the F5/F100 for myself. Many of you will
remember my posts about that about four years ago. It's a shame
that digital has obsoleted these cameras so soon. The F5/F100
really is the pinnicle of 35mm camera design. Maybe next year I
can find a full-blown F5 outfit really cheap.

AG (if digital doesn't get me first) Schnozz
