Considering the "Music" they listen to, I'd say that MP3
compression doesn't really matter too much.

I'm "old-school" in that I much prefer a simple two-mike (BK
preferred) spread XY pattern (6") in front of a band in an
acoustically correct room.  Close your eyes and enjoy.

If you aren't recording it to high-speed tape, then your other
option is 96/24 digital.  Even then, the sampling resolution of
digital will cause the loss of some spacial placement.

Give me samples over bit-depth...

Give me maximum sampling, not for frequency response but for
spacial placement...

All audio compression stinks.  My problem is that I knew exactly
how the algorithms are written--worked in the industry.  Once
you know the algorithm, your ears are poisoned for life.  I
really hate digital satellite TV.  (16:1 compression?  Get real
folks).
