That's what I figured too. Or else, buy a PL filter, and then use a
little whiteout on the rim, to mark the orientation..
On my friend's digital camera, I stuck my PL in front of it, rotated
until I saw what I wanted to on the little view screen, and then took
the picture. He asked "does the funny black lens you are sticking in
front of my camera make a difference?" hehehe.. YES!!
The reflections were high, and the water was very clear, and so with the
correct orientation, I could see the ocean floor.. I hope I caught it
on film!!
I'm going to pick up the film in about 3 hours.. EXCITED!!!

Thanks to this list, without which, I'd be 2 f-stops short of being the
photographer I am today..
I have noticed, I get my pics, notice the mistakes, ask the list, and
when the same situation arises next time, I don't make the same
mistakes.. So this list has been one of the greatest teachers.. I
greatly enjoy sucking your collective knowledge!!

If you're a poor RF user, you hold the polarizer up, rotate until you see
the desired effect, then make note of the orientation. Some polarizers have
only a dot (or other mark) on the rim, but if you're a smart poor RF user
you buy one that has letters or numbers around the rim. Notice which
number/letter is pointing up and then install the polarizer on the lens and
rotate to the same position. Kind of slow and cumbersome, really.
If you're a rich Le*ca user, you might buy their trick polarizer which has a
small 'viewing' polarizer linked by a geartrain to the actual filter in
front of the lens. With the polarizer installed, sight through the viewing
filter and rotate until the desired effect is seen... the polarizer on the
lens will be rotated to the correct orientation at the same time. Sight
through viewfinder and snap picture. (Side question -- is it sacrilege to
suggest that a Le*ca user 'snaps' a picture...? <g>)
I seem to remember the Le*ca polarizer setup costs a lot, like $200 or so...
