One Solution:
Try keeping your index finger on the shutter release and using your middle finger to turn the focusing wheel. This method is straight from my Contax IIIa manual. At least with the size of my hands, it was the middle finger that tended to block out the RF window and when I kept it on the wheel, it no longer did that. Took a little conscious effort on my part in remembering to operate it that way, but after a while it became habitual . . . even if I only use it to release the infinity lock so I can quickly rotate the lens with my left hand for fast focusing.
