Vehicles do need to fit in with the environment in which they are used.
Years ago a friend of mine took some pictures of a family and their use of a
small Citroen. I forget the model but there were millions of the little
things used in Europe. He was sitting on a bench in front of a Paris
furniture store. A family of five pulled up in this little car and proceeded
to dismantle it at the curb by removing the seats and doors. They then
placed a piano in the car crosswise. While his family sat on the seats on
the sidewalk the man squeezed in and drove off with the Piano. After a while
he came back, they reassembled the car and merrily drove off. The photo
montage he put together was very entertaining.

I bought a Renault Dauphine when they were sold in the US in 1958. It would
have probably been OK if never driven over 50 mph.......but the engine
burned up three times in 25,000 miles at Montana highway speeds. I managed
to get myself and 15 girls in it one time...shifting gears was very
interesting. Its most redeeming feature was the front trunk that was just
the right size to hold a keg of beer and ice. It had a drain plug to let the
water out later.

Alas, I fail on two out of three.

I live in London, ride a motorbike mostly, and when I do drive I have a Fiat
with a 1.2 litre engine. Mums delivering kids to schools in streets
designed for horses in vehicles designed for Montana make my blood boil...
