It's already here, Jim. E-1 lenses are designed to communicate to the camera information about their various optical shortcomings so the camera software can fix them. See:

"Because each lens features "smart" technology as well, they are able to intelligently communicate basic information with the camera body like the type of lens being used and specific lens design information. This transfer of data can compensate for certain lens characteristics like shading and distortion. This smart technology also allows the user to shoot with the most current firmware available for their E-1 components. With the camera connected to an Internet-enabled computer, the simple press of a button in the Olympus Viewer software activates a search for the most current firmware version and updates the lens, flash and body accordingly."
