IF I understand this correctly it goes like this:
If you have, let's say, a 1.6 multiple with your 35 mm lenses on a
digital - say a Nikon - which I believe is 1.5 or 1.6..That means that
your 35 mm lens becomes a 56 - call it a 50. But it is still a 35 -
you're using the center part of it. So all of a sudden, your 56 has the
depth of field of a 35...much more depth of field than you're used to
with a normal 50-55. Like wise, that 50mm lens becomes about an 80 -
which means an 80 1.4 at f 1.4 suddenly has the depth of field of a 50
at 1.4...and so on...

The E-1 standard zoom is a 14-54, or just about 28 to 108....But in
terms of depth of field, you get a 28 with the astounding depth of field
of a 14 mm lens, and a 104 with the depth of field of a 50!

It's not that the images you get this way look less "real," they just
have far more depth of field in them than your used to looking at images
shot with a 35mm film camera. And this can definitely mean adjusting to
a somewhat different shooting style if you're a person - like I am - who
likes to work close and shoot wide open with a 35mm camera.

Sorry this explanation is optically deficient - but I think the basic
answer is correct.

Why does having "less than a ful frame digital sensor" result in so much
depth of field? Is this the main reason why digicams lack that sense of
depth? If so, will a full frame sensor finally give us the same sense of
realism a film camera does?

Titoy
