Yes, IS or VR would be nice - and who knows what will come next year.
But meanwhile, I would note that a general lack of IS/VR isn't stopping
the Nikon D100 from selling out.

As I remember there were plenty of people who did consider OM's tiny toy
cameras. However there were enough people (most?) that weren't manly
enough to carry around massive Ni*ons and Ca*ons that Olympus pushed the
whole 35mm SLR towards much smaller cameras when they were found to be
of high quality and reliable. I believe even John H said there was
little extra room in an OM. If the case gets dented it is much more
likely to damage the internals than it would the big old SLRs.

I think Olympus has technology trends on its side with the E1 even more
than with the OM1. As someone brought up recently though, the lack of IS
or VR might be a problem for wide spread acceptance of the system.
