Duncan - How do you figure that a 24 mm OM lens would convert to a 135
on the E-1? It would be provide aproximately the field of view of a 48 -
the multiplication factor is 1.97 - not FIVE.FIVE.

Hi all,

I was quite surprised to see the message I posted on the dp-now
discussion forum appear back on this list as I originally got wind of
the adapter at zuiko.com and then on this mailing list so I assumed it
was common knowledge here. Since there seemed to be some uncertainty
regarding the possibility of the OM-4/3 adapter among the contributors
to the dp.now group, I decided to post the message there once I had
received confirmation of its existence from John Hermanson.

I'm glad to see this list is still going strong with many of the "old"
contributors still active. I have frequently referred to the archives
(and still do) when I wanted to find out something specific on OM
matters which wasn't covered on the FAQ site or when I wanted to read a
variety of opinions on something but since these stop at 2000 I thought
that the mailing list, like its raison d'être, had been discontinued. I
have only just re-subscribed to the list and so I look forward to many
more fruitful discussions and shared experiences involving OMs and
Zuikos.

A bit about me: I've been an OM user/enthusiast for the last 7 years or
so but my interest in photography (and hopefully my ability) has
escalated since moving to Switzerland three years ago as a result of an
increase in available time, cash and photographic subjects. Much of my
efforts are devoted to landscapes, particularly mountains and lakes of
which there is an abundant supply here, although I've been trying my
hand at a fair bit of macro and architecture work recently. Any other
list members in Switzerland?

Cheers for now,
Duncan.

I can confirm that the news of the OM to 4/3 adapter is true. Here is an
email I received from John Hermanson - an authorised Olympus dealer and
repair specialist in New York.
"It is made and sold by Olympus, it's an official Olympus product an not
available yet. As I said, if their net price to dealers is accurate, it
will
probably sell for under $125. The fact that Olympus has it listed on
their dealer site and have assigned a product number to it, indicates
that it will
be a real product."
The parts list on which this adapter is listed is only viewable by
authorised dealers.
Although the ability to use old Zuikos with the E-system is good in
principle, I'm a not sure whether TTL metering at open apertures will
still be possible or whether the DOF prefiew button will have to be held
down. Also, wide angle photography will be rather limited: my widest
Zuiko is a 24mm which will give a field of view of close to that
obtained with a standard lens in 135 format.
Cheers,
Duncan.
