I once had an NZ colleague, new to the university and new to the USA, who
felt it necessary to be very sober and accurate all the time. He never
answered a question with "Yes" or "No," always with "Negative" or
"Positive." He always changed into his tennis shorts near five o'clock,
just prior to jumping into his "Jag" before going to practice. He never
forgave me for remarking that he had borrowed his wife's "Ply"* when his
auto was in the repair shop.
*Plymouth, for those outside the US. A plebian brand.
