I think you have hit upon the key to the problem, John.

Of course any tech will tell you that his work is correctly done, and of
course he will at least suspect the reliability of another piece of equipent
used as a control. So cut the comparison to some Sequoia piece-of-junk (as
the tech might say - well, it isn't Olympus brand) and another camera which
might both be inaccurate.

Concentrate only on the 4Ti, so you can't be fobbed off woth baloney about
colour temperatures.

From your original posting, I drew the conclusion that you have too - that
the shutter speed is compensating for an error in the metering circuit. If
that is so, all you need is to take a series of manual exposures using an
electronic flash. Do the whole range of shutter speeds, see which ones do
not have the whole frame exposed - if 1/60 is only part exposed, then the
shutter is firing faster 1/60. No need for the expense of real shutter
testing, no ned to know hwo fast - the tech can pay for that.

Does that help?

Piers

What I think has happened is that the linkage between the exposure
information shown in the viewfinder does not match the actual shutter speed.
For example, multi-spot metering shows an average exposure in the view
finder of say 1/45 @ f16. When the shutter is fired the shutter actually
fires at 1/125 @ f16 giving me a properly exposed slide. When I set the
camera manually at 1/125 @ f16, which is the Sekonic reading, the shutter
actually fires at ~ 1/375 @ f16 giving me an under exposed image.
