Some things to consider. You mentioned festivals so i assume you will be
up in the highlands. The sun at that altitude can be very bright leaving
the shadows very dark. i.e. very wide latitude. This might be tough for
slide film without fill flash. Can be tough for print film too.  People
wear hats so faces tend to be in the shade. In your favor is the fact
that the dry season is pretty much over  and there is much more chance
of cloudy weather to reduce contrast ;>) Get up early as it typically
tends to cloud over by noon or so. Another reason to get up early is the
lower angle sun. Noon sun is directly over head and very poor for
photos. If you must take pictures at noon use a polarizer, since the sun
is overhead a polarizer is effective in any direction without the color
graduation from side to side as seen in the mid latitudes. Also bring a
strong UV and a skylight filter if you don't like the added blue.
Personally I don't mind it and am glad to be rid of the perpetual sea
level haze. The crystal clear horizons are unbelievable. Post some
pictures when you get back.
