The way to make lenses with higher resolution is to utilze ED glass, 
mould/grind aspheric surfaces, and spend a fortune on high-quality construction 
to hold it perfectly centered.

Not many people want to pay for that level of workmanship except pros.  The 
newer Leica, top-end Zeiss, Nikon ED-AFS, and Canon L lenses are all examples 
of such products.
