I guess it would save money not having to have to push the older to 100.
What dose YMMV mean?

Haven't ever used the 50, but was pleased with a test roll of 100 that I

tried last weekend.  You might check out a comparative review that Pop 
Photo did on the new Velvia 100 back in August.  While the two films 
have the same name, the 100 film is "improved" over the old 50 - better 
grain structure, highly saturated color with better skin tones.  In 
other words - there really isn't any point in pushing 50 if you have a 
choice to use the 100 (which they said also pushes well).  YMMV, but 
that's the summary of the Pop Photo experience.
