Hello everybody,

I want to apologise to those of you who gave me sound advice about trading
on that site.

Actually, I wrote the original letter very much "tongue in cheek", but I
suppose that, as is typical in our family, my kind of humour is rather warped.
Not always easy to detect it is a joke (but I did include a (;-) as warning
).

I went into that auction very much with my eyes open.

Firstly I asked if the seller would post to me outside the USA. She agreed as
I expected (the bidding had been sparse, as one might expect given the
quality of the advertisement) and she could be expected to jump at the
chance to get a higher price. After they agreed to post, I asked questions
about exactly when tests they had or had not carried out. And got replies.

I have been looking for one of these non-zoom Epics for some time; but have
not been prepared to pay much.

Some people gamble at a casino, some people gamble on horses, at cards,
on sport. Me; sometimes I gamble on da *bay.

If this little camera turns out to work well, I have scored a fang. A rough
one,
but a fang.
If not, I haven't lost much and it has been fun.

Humour; my Dad always used to make statements or ask questions which,
to the unsuspecting listener, seemed to make sense. And they would reply
as if that were the case. In certain cases, they were wrong, and thus he
"won" and would let them know in no uncertain terms. The trick was to
always automatically look for logical inconsistencies which, if he was "having
us on" were always there. There was always, in these cases, some facts
that did not add up. We never let him "get away with it" or "win" if we could
help it. A warped sense of humour which I inherited and sometimes exercise.

Perhaps I should have used slightly different words in the title.
