My first job out of camera school was with Allied Impex Corp, the US
distributors of Miranda, Soligor, Bauer, etc. I spent the first few months
repairing hundreds of Sensomat RE-II's that were defective from the factory
Someone decided it was a good idea to use "conductive cement" to attach a meter
VR circuitboard to ground. Of course, the cement failed, as did the metering.
I had to remove the front lens standard, clean off the cement, and solder the
circuit ground. Boring! Except for that, it was a really nice camera -- sounds
kinda like the OM-10, huh?
I stayed there just about 6 months -- just long enough to see the new model, the
DX-10 I think, go through about 7 major circuit versions! Miranda went out of
business a year or so later.
The only really unique product they sold was a focusing screen with a feature
they called "QIS". Where most split image screens use either a horizontal or
diagonal "split", the "QIS" screen used a "split" comprised of two concentric
rings. A line crossing these rings at virtually any angle would be "split"
unless in focus -- it was way kewl! I wonder who ended up with the patent.....
