I think Bill Pearce's recent observations on how hard pros are on their equipment apply here. It all depends on the user. I used an OM-2n and Shoe 4 for many years and took lots of flash pics with a T32. The shoe is no more cracked now than shortly after I bought it. On the other hand I've heard others on the list say Shoe 4s don't hold up with the weight of a T32 for long. All it takes is banging or catching the flash pretty solidly. I would be anxious with anything much bigger/heavier than a T32 on a Shoe 4. The screw-in shoes on the OM-1/2 series can also dent the fairly thin, soft brass of the top plates with too much weight/pressure. Then the shoe doesn't hold quite steady. I haven't done this myself, but have seen it in cameras I've bought, so I don't know what it took to do it.

I'm looking to putting a Metz 40MZ3 flash onto my om2n. Now the flash
itself is rather heavy (and tall) so I'm a bit worried if it will break
the shoe4. Has anyone had any experience with the larger Metz flashes?
