I nearly always use the hood but even then occasionally get aperture flare
images. My vague feeling is that it is a little better than the 35mm shift
lens and better than the SN 24mm f2.8 prime for flare resistance. I haven't
used a 35mm prime enough to compare.

(It's much easier to hand shade a zoom lens than to hand shade a shift lens
that decides it wants to follow gravity ... nor are the hoods for the shift
lenses very useful.)
