A while ago I had another 500/8. This lens has a 'trick' which may be the
cause of your problem... the ring with the coupling notch around the mount
is fastened by a small red screw -- follow the pink arrow at
<http://217.216.177.119/etc/sp500.jpeg> and
<http://217.216.177.119/etc/sp500bk.jpeg>.

If you loose this screw, the ring aroung the mount can be turned about 1 cm
from side to side -- this was intended to provide correct metering with
some older Nik*ns and Nikk*rmats (as the red label warns!), but would shift
meter readings in other cameras, if set in the wrong position. Try setting
it at both ends.

>with both the T-20 and the T-32, according to my OM2SP, I can't pump enough
>light at 8 feet (ASA 100) to get the meter to read OK. It always says
>"UNDR". This is in "AUTO" with the speed set at 1/60. Now the T-32 at 8
>feet should melt the film<g>.

The problem above shouldn't affect TTL flash metering (or OTF auto
exposure), but... are you sure you're trying the flash with some (junk)
film in the camera? TTF-flash is most likely to read 'UNDER' if no film is
loaded. Any unprocessed strip of film will do the job.

Hope this helps,

...
