I agree, but would point out the year...
That's THIRTY year old technology. Doesn't make it invalid. Doesn't make it
bad. Just makes it irrelevant to Olympus marketing. Just like we are.
I think now the design is done, the production costs of the adaptor won't be
very great. It's a marketing thing more than a cost thing. If cost were the
issue they could make it special order and charge a fortune.
The best hope of seeing it is with the cheapo body, since it is unlikely
that they will have an S Zuiko line of Digilenses ready. That's just a hope,
not an expectation, however.
Another possibility is a new rear mount plate for the auto bellows. Don't
hold your breath, but it would make more sense than the infinity adaptor. It
will take some time to get close to the OM macro capability, and at that
extension 'telecentric' is hardly the first of one's concerns. A few close
focusing lenses labelled 'macro' won't cut it. More likely thaat they will
re-mount the glass formulae for the 20 and 38, however, and go for a slower
burn.
The real message here is that if you buy into the digital dream, it's time
to move on. If not, then there's plenty of life left in the OM legacy
system.
