I had this equipment available when I was a civilian photographer at Ft. A. P. Hill in Virginia. Seems no one was using it, preferring to shoot with an older N*k*n that had few accessories. I would use the accessories and lenses with my personal 4T. We shot only in B&W and processed everything in house.
That was in about 1991.

The GSA (government services administration?) will assign government numbers
and approve the pricing for certain configurations of equipment. It makes it
so they don't have to go out for competitive bids everytime they want to buy
something. I believe the "military surplus" is just a configuration
available from a vendor. Nothing really military about it. Most OM sets seem
to be coming from the police agencies rather than combat groups. --- others
may know more and be more accurate.

These two auctions seem to be for identical OM2sp set-ups. One auction
states that the set is military surplus, however, it doesn't have the case.
