One feature that may be worth looking for is a tripod with a level built in to it. This would mainly be a concern if you do architectural work.

Yes, there are levels that you can get to fit in the hot shoe. Or, if you shoot large format, you will frequently have levels on the camera. However, I've found that your life is much easier if you get the legs level first.

This is mostly an issue with working with larger cameras (such as a 4x5). It's extremely frustrating to spend a lot of time and effort leveling the camera only to find that you need to then pan slightly to fix the framing and then find out that your legs aren't level so panning the head takes your camera out of level.
