The small diffusers help a little, but to really make a significant
difference you need a LARGER light source. That is why studio soft boxes
are much larger than the flash head. You can visualize how a larger source
softens the shadow edges if you sketch it out You can invent various
reflectors or diffusers that increase the size of your flash head - or you
can buy an endless variety of attachments. One trick is to rotate a T32
entirely around in a Bounce Grip 2 and bounce the light off the wall behind
you (assuming it is light colored). The wall then becomes a very large
source. Most such tricks cost power, of course.

The other way to soften lighting is to bring it closer to the subject. As
the light-to-subject distance increases the light source becomes more of a
point source - and a point source is hard light.

Remember: Large or close = softer. Small or farther away = harder.
