I'm just guessing but I don't think you could control the very subtle changes
of a scene's light intensity enough for it to be a valid "test."

Just go do it....sounds trite doesn't it. I would photograph a lot of
different things with widely differing levels of color intensity and keep
good records of what was done and then correlate those to the resulting
images. That may create an experience base that will aid you in capturing
the desired result when photographing for real. /jim
